Chapter 9 briefly talk about: - reflectors (parabolic, elliptic, hyperbolic) - range finding using hyperbolae (and GPS satellites!) - cycloid (assign problems from the project) (optional): surface area ------- etc: linear algebra, group theory, some baby lie groups for my own sake, write these up (but don't inflict them on these students) function spaces, limits of functions: pointwise, uniform (give sick examples, e.g., the function that's f_n = 1/n on [n,2n] goes to zero uniformly but has integral 1, so if your domain in unbounded, life can suck. ...also f_n = n on [1/n,2/n] goes to zero pointwise on a compact interval, has integral 1. otoh, if function is on a -compact- interval and goes uniformly, then life is okay? (note about C^1, C^k, C^infty topologies)
